April Cards

Cards Comments Off on April Cards

Tis the season for working on some household projects – fixing some damage on the house caused by a really bad wind storm, some exterior painting, getting the patio furniture ready for the season etc. so my weekends are consumed by that lately (and paint day – 2 friends and I get together on a Saturday afternoon and try to copy a painting by watching a YouTube video).

I have made a few cards here and there…plus I’m working on a cute one for a baby shower but that hasn’t been created yet (only in my head).  Here’s the latest crop:

New Skillz

Well, not yet…but I did have some fun playing with acrylic paint and a couple of palette knives over the weekend.  I don’t have “good” pictures to share but will try to remember to take some once everything is varnished and dry.

Painting 2: Blue flowers (I think this is a 12″x16″)

I also made a couple of Easter cards this afternoon:

I’m really struggling with my card-making lately.  I want to make cards but when I sit down to do it, I lose all focus and end up with nothing.  Hope I find my mojo soon!

Weekend Round-Up

Cards, other crafts Comments Off on Weekend Round-Up

I managed to get some afternoon craft time yesterday AND today (largely because I had a few orders to fill) and I’m just going to quickly share what I made as I won’t get time to blog these items individually.

First, I dropped in to Michael’s yesterday morning since we had to stop at the DIY store next door and I picked up some wool to make coffee cup cozies (still a work in progress so I’ll share at a later date), wool for a small throw blanket for our living room and I also scored a Cinch binding machine for $25!!!  I also picked up some Valentine themed patterned paper, a stamp set, and a few mini pens.  I did use the Valentine themed supplies to make these:

I had a complex order this weekend of a glittered wine glass and thank you card (complex because it’s a three-stage job and you have to wait for each coat to dry before you can move on to the next) so I made the card yesterday after glitter stage two and added the vinyl to the glass this afternoon.  Pictures are not good but here you go:

One more order I needed to knock out this weekend was a much easier project – a monogrammed mug.  The only difficulty filling this order was waiting for Bowring to get the mugs back in stock:

On a sadder note, a Beagle Paws friend’s dog passed away last weekend and I really wanted to send her a personalized sympathy card so I made this early last week:

puppy sympathy

In between all this, I’m still making dishcloths as I find it relaxing and it also lets me watch a bit of tv on the week nights when I’m not feeling particularly creative.  I don’t have a pictures to share but I’ve added a few colours.  I probably have to stop making them for a bit as I’m just displaying them at work and have probably run out of customers!

Enjoy your week.  May it be productive and creative.

Watercoloured Cards

Cards Comments Off on Watercoloured Cards

Just trying to get back in the swing of card-making and decided to have a little fun smooshing ink on some watercolour paper for the background of my first cards for 2017.

I was inspired by the layout of an MFT card I found on Pinterest.

Here’s the paper with the smooshed inks:

watercolour-vday

…and here are the three cards I made with the backgrounds:

watercolour-dog

watercolour-cat-2

watercolour-cat-1

Coincidentally, the imagesI used today happen to be from two MFT stamp sets that I bought a couple of months ago.  I’d already cut them out using my Pixscan mat as I didn’t buy the matching dies (very expensive in CAD$$$) so I just had to colour them while waiting for the background to dry.  I used black pigment ink for the sentiments to ensure they would stand out on the distress ink.

Smooshing is a great way to control how your ink is laid down on the paper.  If I had to do this with a brush I don’t think it would be so “organic” looking.  Must remember to use this technique more often.

Finally! A few cards

I managed to make some cards yesterday – only because I locked myself in my craft room for the whole day so I could catch up.

I still have about a dozen to make (some are for myself) as well as a couple of December birthday cards but I’m happy about the 16 I have done so far.  Here’s a sampling:

Must dash – have to make a “Congrats” card and don’t have a thought in my head re: layout.

Wedding Bells

I’ve been working on the Beagle Paws fundraiser the last few weeks but did manage to squeeze a few other projects into my craft room hours.  Today I’m sharing a wedding card but the picture doesn’t do it justice (shiny gold cardstock plus a shaker window…hard to photograph – not that I try that hard).

The card may look simple but it used some tricky techniques – heat embossing (which I hate as much as glitter) and a shaker window.  The openings in the ampersand are shakers.

There is a white border around the card but it blends into my background.

Back tomorrow with a cute Christmas ornament.

I Made A Card!

Cards Comments Off on I Made A Card!

It’s been so long since I’ve made a card.  I’ve been playing with textile crafts lately and have so much sewing and cutting paraphernalia scattered around my craft room there simply hasn’t been any space for paper crafting.

I finished a (gasp!) Christmas stocking last night – forgive the time of year for that but I don’t really sew and it was my first time making a stocking – and decided that it was time to tuck the fabric and sewing machine away for a bit and get back into playing with my neglected paper crafting supplies.

I whipped this card up fairly quickly tonight.  It’s simple but colourful and cute:

Image stamp is MFT, sentiment is Simon Says Stamp.  I treated myself to a couple of orders a few weeks ago and received both parcels this week.  Perfect timing to switch crafting gears.

Hoping to spend a little more time in the craft room this weekend – unfortunately, it will be mostly to do a bit or reorganizing/purging.  Ugh!

Whipped up a card this afternoon for our nephew in England.  Completely CASEd from a card I saw on Pinterest.  I traced some images I found online and cut out the shapes with my Cameo.  Sentiment is computer generated.

Now that the card is made I must try tidying up my craft room!  Anyone want to come over and clean the floor for me?

Made a few paper crafts using the “Bark” and “Meow” paper collections from Echo Park:

“Scratch” Pads:

Puppy Pads:

…and some quick 3X4″ notecards and handmade envelopes using pre-printed panels from the collections:

Mojo is low at the moment – I should probably use this time to reorganize my craft room and sell off some stuff I don’t use any more. (like a million Prima flowers)

Sorry the picture is a little “off”…the card spread open a little when I was taking a picture and my room is in a sad state so I’m at the point where I hover over the card (and a lot of craft supplies) with my camera and it’s “one take or nothing”!
