July in One Post

I’ve been busy, what can I say?  The blog is neglected (I do have a FB page – Handmade By KellyBee if you want to pop by) but I’ve been doing crafty things – mostly on the weekends.

In addition to crafting, there’s been the usual round of summer visitors and home projects such as repainting our shutters and front door.  We have a bit of work to do on the front steps and then I’ll try to remember to share a before and after.  We have a white house so I was very surprised at what a change the new shutter colour made.

Some July projects:

As you can see, cards have not been the main focus lately.  I’m really enjoying using my Silhouette Cameo to create projects and I’ve also been dabbling with some chalk paints lately…here’s the new toys:

It’s been very hot and humid in St. John’s – high 20’s most days which is not normal for this area of Canada.  It’s usually a bit cooler (low 20’s, high teens – I can’t translate to Fahrenheit but I’m guessing mid-to-low 70’s and right now it’s high 70’s to low 80’s.  Might not sound that hot to you but if you’re not used to it, it can feel pretty uncomfortable.)

My dad has been visiting from Ontario the last few weeks (he goes back next week) and my BFF has also been visiting from BC so I’ve had more social activities than usual.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.  I must go see what we’ll be making for supper this beautiful evening.

I was playing with a dog-themed Christmas stamp set a couple of days ago but I’m not quite ready to break out all the Christmas craft paraphernalia so I kept them clean and simple:

I used colouring pencils and OMS to colour the images – just because I wanted to sit in the TV room with DH and the dogs as I’ve spent a LOT of time in my craft room this week.

I also modified the middle dog to make it look more like a beagle (these are dachshunds).

It’s a pretty cute set – I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of it once I start Christmas paper crafts.

Enjoy what’s left of the weekend.  I’m back to work tomorrow after a week off.  Wish I had more to show for it but it was a nice break.

Needed a little change of pace after working on my Pikachu ornaments yesterday and I always find it easiest to make a tag when I want to shift gears or I’m low on mojo.  The smaller design space is much less daunting than that blank 4.25″x5.5″ rectangle.  Besides, I had a growing pile of cardstock and paper scraps on my desk from the gift bags I’ve been making for my dog bandannas.

I used a new MFT set featuring some very cute birthday bears.  I didn’t purchase the matching dies as that would have brought the cost of the stamp set to $50 USD – just not economically feasible at all!

However, I do have a Pixscan mat for my Silhouette so I stamped up a few images and cut them out for my tags:

Believe it or not, I’ve switched gears again and am working on another Beagle Paws fundraiser – Happy Howlidays II.  It might seem early but I have a LOT to do in order to pull this off.  Must go play with some faux snow!

I’ve been wanting to try my hand at a Pokemon themed ornament and finally had some time to play with the design.

It took 3 attempts to get the vinyl to the scale and detail that I wanted but it turned out pretty cute in the end:

I’ve since made the nose a little smaller on the advice of a friend who has a clue about Pokemon (I don’t!)  I’m lucky I know this little dude is not actually called Pokemon.

It took me longer to make the packaging than it did to design the ornament (you can see the revised nose below):

Off to make a few dog bandannas!

Still busy, still not spending much time in my craft room (but also not spending on craft supplies so that’s a positive).

I have made a few things – St. Patrick’s Day treats, birthday cards, etc. but haven’t taken pictures as I’m usually whipping these things up at the last minute.

I’m a whole day early for my Easter treats (for work so I need them for Thursday) and made 18 little bunny and carrot treat bags with tags tonight.  This particular treat is quite appropriate as I call the people in the department I supervise my peeps…

The one on the right is to show you what’s in the bag (a marshmallow peep and a chocolate “carrot”).

I still have 5 bags to finish off but it’s the first time I’m on schedule since Christmas!

Made a few paper crafts using the “Bark” and “Meow” paper collections from Echo Park:

“Scratch” Pads:

Puppy Pads:

…and some quick 3X4″ notecards and handmade envelopes using pre-printed panels from the collections:

Mojo is low at the moment – I should probably use this time to reorganize my craft room and sell off some stuff I don’t use any more. (like a million Prima flowers)

Sweet Treats

Quickly popping by to show you my 2015 co-worker Christmas Treat.

They actually took a while to make but I think they turned out okay. (chocolate covered cherry inside)

Hope to share a few Christmas cards in the next few days but it’s soooooo busy!

2015 Christmas Ornament

other crafts, paper crafts No Comments »

My personalized ornament this year is a monogrammed style.  I got the idea on Pinterest – certainly nothing new but I’ve had a year to play with my Silhouette and I’m more comfortable cutting out vinyl.  I used the Silhouette to make ornaments last year but it was painful weeding the vinyl and trying to transfer text without losing portions or messing it up.

I’ve had plenty of practice so I made glitter ornaments similar to my Grinch ornaments (but smaller) and placed the name across the monogram in matte silver:

You can just about get the idea of how sparkly these are in real life (Martha Stewart glitter.  I’m bummed that they have discontinued so many of the colours).  I’m doing them in red and green as well but only have a pink one to show today.

Of course, gotta do that packaging – my favourite part of any craft:

I’ll probably make every tag a little different using the bits and bobs on my desk as I work on other Christmas projects.   These are really fun to make but the glittering part is a bit messy (and smelly for a day or two as well)

Beagle Paws Fundraiser (Building For Beagles)

other crafts, paper crafts 2 Comments »

My paw print ornaments were so popular last year that I approached the organization where we adopted our two beagles to see if they were interested in using them as a fundraiser.  They were!

So, I’m making 200 of these babies to raise money for the Beagle Paws “Building for Beagles” fund which is to raise money to build their own shelter (I would love to see that happen!)

They are a bit smaller than the ornaments I made last year (they are 2 5/8″ instead of around 3″ in diameter) but the size is more akin to a traditional tree ornament.  They also come packaged up with a handmade gift tag (choice of dog, cat, or paw print).  I’m just sharing on the blog because I’ve mentioned that’s why I’m so busy lately.  They are only for sale in the St. John’s area – no delivery available (unless you’re Mel and you make an arrangement with Kassey!)

Here’s the packaging:

Christmas Projects – Ring Dish and Reindeer “Noses”

other crafts, paper crafts No Comments »

Still working away on my Christmas ideas.

Today I found the perfect little dishes at Pier 1 to make some monogrammed ring dishes for gifts.  At first I was going to do a circular monogram (once I worked out how to do it!) but the dishes are square so I went for a clean, simple initial in matte gold:

I think it turned out quite cute! (looks nicer in person – the gold is looking kind of brown in the picture)

I also made some reindeer noses (concept from Pinterest) which are Whoppers and red gumballs:

Surprisingly, the reindeer noses are kind of pricey.  I only had enough Whoppers to make 8 bags but I want to make 4 more simply because I already coloured my reindeer!

Back soon – lots to share!
