I haven’t been making good use of my craft room in my Christmas down time.  I *want* to work on some projects but I’ve been enjoying doing some domestic tasks and reading some of the (many!) books I received for Christmas and my birthday. (we’ve also started watching Downton Abbey on Netflix so that’s been a bit of a time suck as well).

However, I did play with my new punch board yesterday (We R Memory Keepers envelope punch board…it’s really easy to use!) and also did a few cards using a stamp and die set I received for Christmas…

My first card was done the traditional way – I coloured the image and cut it out:

I think it turned out quite cute even though the layout is a little simplistic.  I was dying to add some flat back pearls or resin dots but I resisted the urge since there are already so many polka dots on the patterned paper.

However, I did not practice the same restraint on my next attempt.  I still wanted to use the elephant (I love elephants!) but didn’t want to colour it the same way so I simply stamped it on some patterned paper and cut it out with the die.  I then added some details like fussy cutting some toenails (that sounds weird), gluing a “googlie eye” to the image and stamping the ear a second time and popping it up on the main image.  I enjoyed the process so I made a second image just like the first and did two different cards using the same focal image.  First was a birthday card:

(I got some use out of my stapler as well)

…and then I used the same image on a baby boy card:

Since I was having so much fun with my envelope punch board I made the baby card 5X5″ and then made an envelope to go with it (not pictured).

That’s it for now.  I have to do some tidying up before I can even think about making anything else…my work top is covered in patterned paper and stamp sets.
