Today is my Dad’s birthday.  A lot has happened in the past year.  Mom had to be placed in a home, Dad had a stroke, Mom passed away…it has not been the happiest 12 months of his life.

Soon, he’ll be selling the home that he and my mother had built when they got married and moving away to spend some time with my brothers who both live in another province.  It will be good for him to start fresh (and spend some time with his only grandchild) but I am certainly going to miss him.

However, I still have another 6 weeks with him before he leaves and I’m trying to make the most of them.

There have been a few more suppers at my house and a few more visits to his than usual.  A few extra phone calls, a few extra “treats” for him when I go to the supermarket…I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like when I don’t have my mom OR my dad just a few minutes’ drive away from my own house.

I do get this birthday with him – and maybe some day he’ll move back “home” and we can celebrate more of his birthdays together.  I really hope so.

Sorry if the above sounds depressing.  It’s another of those posts I debated sharing but that’s what’s going on in my life right now.  To cheer you up, here’s his birthday card – nothing on the card conveys all of the above feelings!

The yellow cardstock is a much closer match to the patterned paper in real life.  Not sure what happened there.

The pearls and rhinestones are all Michael’s clear/pearl stickers that I customized with my Copic markers.  Deliberately wonky sewing (which I kind of regret now – it didn’t come out exactly as I’d planned) and a cute Hero Arts stamp that I coloured and fussy cut.  The yellow cardstock panel is popped up on foam tape as is the bird so there’s a little more dimension than my picture illustrates.

Despite being a relatively quick card, my craft room is a total mess again.  I don’t know how I make such a big mess creating one simple card!
