Are you in the mood for a few tips on how to stretch your stamp stash?

I had a request for a Valentine’s Day card with a “hug” theme for a little boy but I didn’t have an appropriate stamp to use for the card.

I dug around looking for an image with open arms and found one that might be suitable but the arms were a bit short so the hug wasn’t quite as obvious as I’d have liked.  Another search yielded a set of Recollections monster stamps.  There was one image with open arms but the arms were pointing downward.  I thought I could selectively stamp the image and then reverse the arms by stamping them separately but then I had a better (okay, easier) idea.

Here’s the stamp set:

The image on the bottom right is the stamp I was originally going to alter but I thought it would be too difficult to work with the part of the arm that is inside the body portion of the image.  The monster on the far left, however, has no arms at all so I decided to use that image and then just stamp the hands from the other monster and use a fine black marker to draw the arms.  Here’s the end result:

Not too bad, hey?  I’d also like to mention that you probably don’t need to buy more than one cute set of monster stamps.  It’s hard to resist (I really want the new Technique Tuesday set) but you simply don’t need a ton of monster stamps in your stash.

Since I was on a roll with my altered image, I decided to alter my patterned paper too.  I didn’t have the right shade of blue to match the blue colour on the patterned paper (Echo Park) so I used a copic to adjust the paper to match my monster…feeling quite pleased at the moment!

Must go feed the animals…enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
