April Cards

Cards No Comments »

Tis the season for working on some household projects – fixing some damage on the house caused by a really bad wind storm, some exterior painting, getting the patio furniture ready for the season etc. so my weekends are consumed by that lately (and paint day – 2 friends and I get together on a Saturday afternoon and try to copy a painting by watching a YouTube video).

I have made a few cards here and there…plus I’m working on a cute one for a baby shower but that hasn’t been created yet (only in my head).  Here’s the latest crop:

These were fun to do.  Makes me want to decorate the containers we use for Jack and Jill’s treats but you know the expression…”The shoemaker’s children have no shoes.”

Back tomorrow with a few cards.

Well, not yet…but I did have some fun playing with acrylic paint and a couple of palette knives over the weekend.  I don’t have “good” pictures to share but will try to remember to take some once everything is varnished and dry.

I also made a couple of Easter cards this afternoon:

I’m really struggling with my card-making lately.  I want to make cards but when I sit down to do it, I lose all focus and end up with nothing.  Hope I find my mojo soon!

Catching Up…

I always think I’m about to catch up on things in my craft room when another project comes along.

This week I made a Game of Thrones wine glass, a volleyball themed card and two personalized dog bandannas for a dog-lover client who wants to gift them to a fairly well-known husky in Canada – Nymeria.

Nymeria is walking across Canada with her owner, Bret Mavriik to raise awareness about children’s mental health (Follow Our Walk – I’d link it but the link I went to is dead and I don’t want to send you to the wrong place).

Here are the week’s results:

GOT Wine glass nymeria followourwalk

It might not seem like much production for a whole week but the wine glasses take 4 days and they get a lot of glitter everywhere so I had to completely finish that project before moving on to something else.

I had to wash the broadcloth before I could cut out and sew the bandannas so that took a little extra time as well. (I also forgot to flip the heat transfer vinyl before cutting it out so I wasted half a sheet…dummy!)

DH is away visiting his family so I’m a single dog parent at the moment.  That – and trying to master the snowblower because spring will never arrive in Newfoundland – is also keeping me pretty busy/tired during the week.

Hoping to deglitter the craft room tomorrow and play with a few new stamp sets…can’t remember the last time I made a card for fun.

March Madness

Busy month so far but I haven’t had time to share my projects.

I’ve mostly been glittering wine glasses – I should have a few Paddy’s Day themed ones to share by week’s end.

In between painstakingly sealing wine glass stems, I made a couple of makeup brush holders.  I couldn’t find the shape that I’ve been seeing on Pinterest (other than the stemless wine glasses but I didn’t want to use those) so I bought a couple of small glass canisters and tossed the lids.

NOTE:  These things use a LOT of glitter…and a lot of sealer…and a lot of patience.  I doubt I’ll get into making them.

I don’t have much in the way of makeup brushes so I used paint brushes for the picture.  A cute project but not worth the time/supplies.

Another weekend gone in the blink of an eye.

DH kindly finished fixing my flooring issue this past week and I also got a lighting upgrade so picture taking should improve too!

Just to demonstrate the difference in the light, here is a typical picture that I took just to show what I was doing in my craft room (rather than a picture of an actual project):

…and here’s a picture I took today:

HUGE difference.  Bigly, even.

I’m very excited to be able to see properly while crafting (as I get older, it’s been harder to see the finer details on my projects.  The light upgrade will certainly help)!  Not only is my craft room in the basement of our bungalow but the snow has completely covered the window I do have and not a drop of natural light can get in.  The new lights are daylight fluorescent – which I was a bit worried about getting as I hate working under them all day in the office – and they are a great working light.  Much better than the fixture I had previously as it had 4 halogen “spotlights” and the room was filled with shadows.

In addition to some wine glasses and a pair of socks, I made a few dog bandannas this weekend.  One is my typical “name” bandanna and two are double-sided Harry Potter themed. (NOTE: Generally speaking, I won’t be making these again – it takes WAY longer to make a two-coloured bandanna and I also had some bleeding issues when heating both sides of the HTV).

I didn’t get a picture of the name bandanna but here’s the HP ones (the red didn’t come out right thanks to my new lighting.  Gonna have to play with the settings on my camera a bit):

The last picture shows what’s on the opposite side of both the red and the green bandannas.  Pretty cute!

That’s it for me.  I don’t have any orders to work on this week so I’m probably going to play with the February Card Kit from Simon Says Stamp (coffee themed!) and work on some tags/packaging for my little shop.

Another Weekend Blitz

I actually didn’t spend much time in my craft room this weekend.  The laminate flooring around my desk area is damaged (just because the floor is a bit uneven so the flooring has a bit too much give and my chair wheels catch on the seams) so DH is in the process of putting another layer of laminate just around the traffic area using the flooring we salvaged from our kitchen reno last year.  Some day we’ll have to redo the whole floor but this will work for now.  Point is, the room is semi out of commission.

However, I’m sharing some personalized boxer shorts I made last week as well as a couple of wine glasses:

The dog-themed glasses were a donation to a pet-rescue auction that took place last Thursday.  The “camo” glass is a custom order.

Oh, I also finished my first crocheted hat this weekend too – it’s for DH.  It’s bulky and weighs a ton but he says he likes it.  I don’t have a picture to share but might make another one some day.

Stemless Wine Glasses

Another quick weekend round up (though I still have a card to make and a Valentine’s order to complete this weekend so I hope to be back tomorrow)…

I managed to get a couple of hours in my craft room today and decorated a few stemless wine glasses.  This is a much easier and faster process than the glitter stem glasses.  It’s also a lot cleaner!

Here are some of the glasses I made (I did package them but haven’t taken pictures so that will have to wait for another time…

valentine stemless wine dog

There are LOADS of ideas for wine glasses on Pinterest.  There’s even a free cut file for the “Wine is my Valentine” glass (but I did offset the graphic to make it thicker as I wanted to make sure it remains stuck to the glass when it’s washed).  The others were inspired by Pinterest images – I just used my own font and changed the paw in dog on the last glass to a dog’s head – because dogs!  😉

They’re packaged in clear bags with a wine-themed tag and some coordinating ribbon – quite simple but better than no packaging.  I might pick up some gift boxes but they really add to the cost of a project plus you have to find a space to store them. (My craft room is bursting at the seams.)

We’re going out to supper with some friends this evening so I need to finish a few chores and get ready.  I hope you have a crafty weekend!

Weekend Round-Up

Cards, other crafts No Comments »

I managed to get some afternoon craft time yesterday AND today (largely because I had a few orders to fill) and I’m just going to quickly share what I made as I won’t get time to blog these items individually.

First, I dropped in to Michael’s yesterday morning since we had to stop at the DIY store next door and I picked up some wool to make coffee cup cozies (still a work in progress so I’ll share at a later date), wool for a small throw blanket for our living room and I also scored a Cinch binding machine for $25!!!  I also picked up some Valentine themed patterned paper, a stamp set, and a few mini pens.  I did use the Valentine themed supplies to make these:

bug notepads

I had a complex order this weekend of a glittered wine glass and thank you card (complex because it’s a three-stage job and you have to wait for each coat to dry before you can move on to the next) so I made the card yesterday after glitter stage two and added the vinyl to the glass this afternoon.  Pictures are not good but here you go:

One more order I needed to knock out this weekend was a much easier project – a monogrammed mug.  The only difficulty filling this order was waiting for Bowring to get the mugs back in stock:

On a sadder note, a Beagle Paws friend’s dog passed away last weekend and I really wanted to send her a personalized sympathy card so I made this early last week:

puppy sympathy

In between all this, I’m still making dishcloths as I find it relaxing and it also lets me watch a bit of tv on the week nights when I’m not feeling particularly creative.  I don’t have a pictures to share but I’ve added a few colours.  I probably have to stop making them for a bit as I’m just displaying them at work and have probably run out of customers!

Enjoy your week.  May it be productive and creative.

Mama Needs a Glass of Wine

other crafts No Comments »

These are the last of the glitter wine glasses I made just before Christmas.

I’m planning to do more of these once I have a little more time – it’s a messy process so the craft room needs to be super tidy before I can haul out the glitter and mod podge (it’s special washable mod podge – if you plan to do this, make sure you get something that can withstand hand-washing).

Right now we’re just finishing up a few house projects (some painting and a few baseboards) which seem to be taking longer than necessary because we simply don’t want to get on with it.  It’s always tricky to balance work, life, hobbies, and responsibilities.  Here’s hoping I get better at that in 2017!
