Yeah, still waiting on that book of original blog post titles…

Quite simply, I had a request for a a masculine card – most card maker’s ultimate challenge.  You can find nice masculine papers in scrapbooking stores but there are limited options for stamps and embellishments.  Trees and wood animals (like deer) seem to be the go to for most people.

Of course, if you don’t want a serene card (I rarely do) you can go for a cute “cartoon” animal, like, oh, a crab.

I love this stamp set but I’ve only used it a couple of times.  I don’t know why as it has some really cute stamps in it (dig the little starfish I used as a background) and some punny sentiments (snappy birthday, sandy claws…)

I really wanted to use “googlie eyes” on the crab but his own eyes are quite cute so I left them alone.  The birthday hat is paper pieced using the Recollections paper (from M’s) that I also used on the background.

I did a few extra wrap arounds with the hemp so I had to cut slits in the mat to keep the hemp from unwinding…might have gone a little far with one of the slits but I thought the hemp would cover it…note to self…

The little dude is watercoloured using an aquapainter and SU markers.  I also added some MS glitter (carrara marble) to the sand for texture.

I’m giving this guy two claws up!
