Have you seen the  cute little 4X4″ noteholders that Laurie Schmidlin made?  You can see a tutorial HERE.

When I saw her little project I thought it would be perfect for a new size envelope I’ve been experimenting with.

I bought a box of coin envelopes at Staples because  I wanted to start making some smaller cards and as any Canadians reading this will tell you, it’s hard to find a local source for envelopes other than standard sizes.

The coin envelopes measure 2 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ (they come in a smaller size but this is small enough!) and are admittedly a little bit ugly due to their manilla shade but they are a cute size and it’s nice to switch things up a bit.

So, back to the note holder…

Using Laurie’s project as a guide, I changed the dimensions of her holder to make one to accomodate my coin envelopes and their companion 2 1/4 X 4″ note cards.  I’ll give you the dimensions at the end of this post if you’re interested in giving it a try (read Laurie’s tutorial first – remember, I am not the creator of the holder, I’ve just altered someone else’s brilliant idea).  Here’s what my holder and cards look like:

Here’s the inside:

…and here are the 4 little Valentine cards I made:

(if you think the sheep is not very Valentine-like, the inside says “Will Ewe Be My Valentine?” and the flower is not too Valentine-like either but the inside says “I pick you to be my Valentine.” )

Anyhoo…if you’re interested in making your own mini Valentine note set, here are the dimensions I used (just cut the sizes indicated and use the above-noted tutorial’s directions and you’ll be fine:

Cut the larger piece of cardstock 7.5″x5″.  Score along the longer side at 3 1/4″ and 4 1/4″

Cut the envelope pouch cardstock 3 3/4″x2 1/2″

Cut the card pouch cardstock 4 3/4″ X 3″

The little notecards measure 2 1/4″ X 4 ” to fit in the coin envelopes.

The ribbon is approximately 22″ long.
