As so many of my fellow card makers comment, nobody likes to make this type of card but sometimes it is necessary to make cards to support, encourage and sympathize.  In fact, these cards probably mean more than any other type of “greeting” card.

My card was a request for someone who has a seriously ill (male) family member.  She just wants the family to know that they are in her thoughts.  I thought my Lovely As A Tree stamp set would be appropriate for this card.

I went with strong, masculine colours and used a lot of distress ink. (I only have two colours…I usually stick to basics rather than buy every colour available…I learned this fairly early on when I started card-making though sometimes the happy colours do call my name)

I wanted as much of the striking Basic Grey patterned paper to show through as possible so I mounted the image a little lower on the card that I’d usually do.  I think I like it…at least it’s a little out of the ordinary.

I used SU markers and an aquapainter to colour the tree.  It’s a little more vibrant in real life though I did go over the image with Antique Linen distress ink (and a little vintage photo too…now you know what colours of ink I own)  The strip of cardstock the twine is wrapped around is basic grey by SU. (not to be confused with Basic Grey brand paper)  I spritzed some black ink randomly over the card…I love using my spritzer but it’s easy to get carried away.  I was fairly good tonight so there’s just a splatter here and there.

I’m off to “meditate” for a little while.  I’ve been having a lot of trouble sleeping lately and it’s starting to wear me out.
